My 2013 visit to Gary was appallingly depressing. This once-vibrant city has so many beautiful abandoned buildings that one can hardly go a block without feeling as if traveling through a ghost town. With help from my shooting partners I'll sort these by site, but they include among other things Gary's first public school, opened in 1909 and closed 99 years later, named for Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Palace Theater, the Memorial Auditorium, and a lovely Methodist church.
